His paintings illustrate broadly defined issues of a sense of alienation, the relativity of values and a deficit of content. In illustrating these issues, he uses realism, which he often reduces in terms of color and composition to emphasize the expression of the portrayed scene. The starting material for his paintings is usually photographs he has taken, although he also happens to paint stills from films or photographic press materials.
