Zofia Broniek (1938-2018)
Born in Lviv. She began her artistic education at the High School of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1952-1956. From 1956, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow: painting in the studio of Prof. Adam Marczyński, and lithography in the studio of Prof. Konrad Srzednicki. She received her graduation diploma from the Painting Department in 1962.
She practiced painting, drawing and printmaking. She had more than twenty solo exhibitions in Poland, Norway and Sweden. She participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions, including the international biennial in Krakow, Ljubljana, Liége, Bradford, Frechen, Fredrikstad and international drawing exhibitions in Barcelona and Wroclaw, as well as presentations of Polish art in many countries around the world. In the 1980s, she participated in the independent art movement. She was co-organizer of the art gallery at St. Christopher's Church in Podkowa Leśna. Since 1993 she has been editing the quarterly "Podkowa Cultural Magazine".
Her works are in the collections of: National Museum in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Szczecin and Wroclaw, Art Museum in Lodz, Museum of Central Pomerania in Slupsk, District Museum in Tarnow, Museum in Chorzow and Museum in Bydgoszcz, Ministry of Culture, National Library in Warsaw, Library of Congress in Washington, Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, City Council and Permanent Gallery in Stavanger, and in private collections at home and abroad.
